A small business does not need a huge in-house IT team to work well, but it does need the basics done properly: reliable computers, well-managed accounts, tested backups, sensible security, and one clear person to contact when things go wrong.
What matters most
- Stable, well-configured workstations
- Properly managed email and Microsoft 365 accounts
- Backups that are actually tested
- Wi-Fi and network setup that matches the office
- A clear support contact for urgent issues
The real cost of weak IT support
Poor support mainly costs time: staff blocked by account issues, badly synced files, insecure access, printers that never work properly, improvised setups, and the same faults coming back again and again.
Questions to ask before choosing a provider
Ask how backups are handled, who controls access, how licences are tracked, what happens in an urgent outage, how on-site visits are organised, and whether there is at least basic documentation. Good support is not just “showing up when something breaks”.
